I truly believe that God guides us along the best pathway for our life. Many years ago I saw a job advertisment for a rehabilitation postion and thought "Substance abuse! This would be a great position for me". I applied for the position and it became clear very quickly during the interview that the position was actually much different than I'd envisioned, and would instead be working with individuals with an intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) diagnosis in a group home. This was the position that opend up my world to working with this population, and despite later moving into mental health positions I found myself staying on with the group home for many years. I moved into TDT and School Clinician roles which I absolutely loved, but still felt that a key piece in understanding behavior (and therefore being able to effectively support my clients) was missing. Thankfully, ABA filled that gap! However, working as a BCBA was not something I was able to do in a school position with my company at that time. My path was guided back to working with the IDD population, and I am thankful for all of the wonderful people and their families or providers I've been able to meet so far, and hope to meet many more as I continue this journey.
